Rothesay pupils take part in innovative art project to address skills gap

Pupils from Rothesay Academy travelled to Ayrshire last week to take part in an innovative art project aimed at addressing a skills gap in the textile industry.

Initiated by HRH The Duke of Rothesay, the Future Textiles at Dumfries House project aims to give young people an insight into the textile industry and provide them with the skills required to work in the field.

Rothesay Academy鈥檚 involvement came following ongoing discussions with Bute Fabrics, who are focused on training the next generation workforce.

The project is run in partnership with Glasgow Clyde College and Ayrshire College, and saw pupils take part in a number of workshops over two days, including pattern drafting, embroidery, sewing and weaving.

P站色情片鈥檚 Policy Lead for Education, Councillor Yvonne McNeilly said: 鈥淏y participating in this project, our young people are able to learn additional, specialist skills for an industry that鈥檚 on their doorstep. This is a fantastic opportunity that could really benefit them in years ahead.

鈥淲e want the very best for our young people and we want to give them as many opportunities as possible. We want P站色情片 and Bute to be the best place to grow up, for young people and families to remain in the area, and be attracted to live here. Unique training programmes like this benefit everyone and are a great way for communities to come together.鈥
