National recognition for Oban street cleaner

A street cleaner from Oban has been featured in a prestigious national photography exhibition after having his picture taken by a local photographer.

David Farrell was working during lockdown when Christopher Cox from Taynuilt stopped him and asked if he could take his photo.

Christopher then submitted the image to the National Portrait Gallery鈥檚 Hold Still digital exhibition, where it made the final 100 portraits from almost 32,000 entries received during the project鈥檚 six-week entry period.

The exhibition is spearheaded by the Duchess of Cambridge and focusses on three core themes 鈥 Helpers and Heroes, Your New Normal and Acts of Kindness 鈥 the images present a unique record of the UK鈥檚 shared and individual experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic, conveying humour and grief, creativity and kindness, tragedy and hope.
