S1 pupils at Campbeltown Grammar School marked the end of their year-old interdisciplinary programme last week when they hosted a mini Olympic games.
Interdisciplinary classes combine lessons in different subjects around a common theme. Young people worked with specialist teachers in various subjects over the last 12 months to explore gender stereotypes and produce a script and storyboard for an advert which went against this.
Alongside gender stereotypes, they also studied at the environment, which involved geography, science and art, and took an in depth look at India, which involved some Bollywood dancing in PE and cooking Naan bread in health and food technology.
Their final topic was the Olympics, which brought together maths, modern languages and PE for a mini Olympic Games involving eight countries.
In true Olympic style, opening and closing ceremonies were held, and eight countries battled it out in eight different events in a fight for a medal.
Betsy Campbell, Depute Head Teacher at Campbeltown Grammar, said: 鈥淭he Olympic Games were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and really brought a much needed element of fun after what has been a difficult year due to Covid.
鈥淭he interdisciplinary classes have been a brilliant success and we hope to build on these next term by involving both S1 and S2 pupils.鈥
